Crystal Precious is a neo-burlesque artist, singer, rapper & host. She is best known as the MC for the critically-acclaimed Sweet Soul Burlesque troupe, mixing vintage pin-up styling with hip hop bass, self-written vocals and a touch of tongue-in-cheek striptease. In 2014 she released her first album Queen of Sass with Self Evident following the success of her video “Apple Pie – No Pie For You”, which features apron-clad Sweet Soul dancers destroying pies in slow-motion.
Crystal’s background in writing, indie theatre and sex-positive feminism led her to form the Vancouver-based troupe with Cara Milk & Cherry OnTop in 2003. Aiming to set a professional standard in Canada and to offer anachronistic twists on the resurgent art-form, the now 7-member troupe has since performed all over North America and been nominated for 16 awards by the [international] Burlesque Hall of Fame, including [world’s)] Best Group in 2010.
Crystal co-founded and produced the first annual Canadian burlesque festival (VIBF) in 2006. She also co-owned and managed the infamous West Coast underground cabaret, Dollhouse Studios, from 2006 to 2010. The spot was credited with serving as a community hub for different corners of both the West Coast burlesque and bass culture movements. Since then Crystal has worked closely with the Bass Coast Music Festival as a consultant and performer.
Crystal currently performs weekly at the award-winning Keefer Bar* in Vancouver’s historic Chinatown, where she host Sweet Sip Thursdays – Sweet Soul Burlesque at the Keefer, now 4-years running.
