Exposed to music from an early age, Rustem Rustem was DJing at 13, got his first job in a music shop at 17 and by 21 had set up two independent record labels ‘Loonacy’ and ‘Spud Records’ releasing tracks from Breakbeat to Electro House.
Working for a 12” record distribution company in 2003, he soon became Head of A&R, and by 2006 was Label Manager for the Hoxton Whores.
It was whilst managing the Whores’ label that he launched ‘Sexy Trash Digital’; a breakthrough label established to provide opportunities for up-and-coming artists and producers, whilst advocating his distinctive sound.
Mikey Hook, Kid Dub and James Edwards have all since benefited from Sexy Trash Digital’s commitment to breaking new talent to critical acclaim.
Under the guises of T-Delight and DJ Sexy Trash, he’s remixes and releases have long been a part of London’s clubbing culture, but it is with his own name that Rustem Rustem has gained sound recognition for his production efforts, receiving praise from the likes of Roger Sanchez – so much so that Sanchez invited Rustem to contribute a guest set on his ReleaseYourself radio show in 2010.
Forever challenging himself musically, he continues to work with established names such as Leisure Groove and Kevin Andrews and has had tracks signed to Digital Disco and World Sound, showing that his musical abilities are appreciated by many of London’s most cutting edge producers.
Now firmly established as a DJ, promoter and producer, you can find Rustem Rustem at East London’s Public Life where he holds Sexy Trash Sessions throughout the year.
A leading fixture on London’s underground clubbing scene, each event showcases Rustems’s latest releases amidst his renowned five to seven hour marathon sets.
